Colourpop Candyman Highlighter Review

imageCandyman is a super metallic rich gold highlighter in a pearlized finish. I’m a big fan of Colourpop’s liquid lipsticks and lip liners. I had never tried other products from them besides the lippies, so this was my first time trying one of their highlighters. I placed an order earlier this month and they were having a promo, if you spent a certain amount they included a free highlighter. I thought that was a perfect way for me to be able to try a different product from them- especially since I was on the fence. (If you’ve read my blog, I’ve mentioned in the past I want to try their eyeshadows… talk about beautiful colors and pigmentation! I’m just not a fan of having to use your finger to apply in order to get the best color payoff. I pretty much stay with eyeshadows that apply at their maximum potential using a brush. That’s really the only reason I won’t venture into purchasing eyeshadows from Colourpop)

My thoughts on this highlighter is that I really do like it. I just don’t like the color on me. I found it to be too dark for my skin tone at the moment. It was too gold and didn’t look good on its own unless I mixed it with another highlighter. Just wearing this alone, I will say, it gives a beautiful glow to the skin. I had no problems at all with that. My only issue was the color I chose.

I did find this highlighter to be very pigmented. It’s soft and buttery and I do love the quality of this product. It does suggest on their website to use your fingertip to get the most amount of coverage, but I used a brush and found the coverage to be exactly what I wanted. I didn’t have to build it up and it was bright. I got exactly the highlight I wanted… however, as I mentioned, I don’t like this color on my skin. I wore this multiple times and every single time (except the first two times because I wanted to test out the longevity/ feel of this product on its own) I mixed it with a lighter shade to tone down the color. I used the color Snow from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit (for most of those times) I actually really like the combo of those two together, it created a beautiful glow on my skin and canceled out some of the gold tones in the Colourpop highlighter. It’s funny because I don’t like the color Snow from the ABH glow kit, it doesn’t show up well on its own, but paired with Candyman it works.

I found this highlighter to be long lasting, much like Colourpop’s lippies, the quality is amazing for the price you’re paying. I’m a big fan of that! Most of the time I’ll shy away from products that might be super cheap because they lack pigmentation and the quality doesn’t live up to my standards. Colourpop, in my opinion, is not like that. I find their quality to be very high. That’s so important to me and I’m thankful their products are amazing and pretty inexpensive. Win win, right?

I would recommend this highlighter color for medium or darker skin tones. I think it would look gorgeous on those type of skin tones. It’s a beautiful shade! I’ll probably try wearing this color on its own once I start self tanning again.

Now that I know Colourpop has great highlighters (as well as lipsticks) I will be ordering more! They’re only $8! You can’t beat that! I fear this may become a new obsession. I’m already addicted to stocking up on their liquid & metallic lipsticks. This may have opened up a whole new addiction. 🙂 It could be worse, right?

Tell me, have any of you tried Colourpop’s highlighters before? What do you think? If so, what’s your favorite color from them? Let me know.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

  1. I have their highlighter from the Kae Pop collection and I love it! It took a while for me to love it because I couldn’t find a good way I liked to apply it. But after trial and error I love it! I’m loving this one as well 😍
