Tarteist Lip Paint & Gloss Review

imageIf you guys checked out my Ulta Black Friday Post, then you saw I picked these two Tarte lippies up. I’ve been wanting to try Tarte’s liquid lipsticks for a while now. I love Tarte! I have a few of their Amazonian Clay blushes, eyeshadow palette, concealer, and one of my favorite foundations- Tarte’s Rainforest Of The Sea. I’m familiar with this brand and it’s one I really like. I don’t know why it took me until now to finally try their lip products. (Blame it on the abundance of lippies I already own and if I stopped buying lipsticks tomorrow, would last me for a couple of years.) I guess you could say I’ve kinda always had my eye on Tarte’s liquid lipsticks. I’ve wanted to try the color Namaste for a while. I’ve noticed the color on a few girls on Instagram, and from the looks of it, it looked to be a color that was definitely for me. You guys know I love a good nude! Can you ever really have too many nude shades? 😉

imageI wasn’t looking for liquid lipsticks that night I went to Ulta… however, here we are. Sometimes swatching leads to buying (okay, in most cases with me swatching leads to buying if I like what I see) Namaste was a color I most likely knew I’d purchase or check out at some point… Hella (the lip gloss) was not something I had on my radar. I actually ended up swatching it first, before Namaste. I somehow grabbed the glosses and swatched a few of them before I did the matte lipsticks. Hella was the first color and I was in love!! The color was so perfect for a lip gloss. It says it’s a white nude, but it shows up kinda peachy on me and I’m all for that!! (you guys know I love my peach shades) I had to buy it and I’m so glad I did. I used to be a huge lip gloss lover back in the day. (I went through phases were I wore only lip gloss, only shimmery lipsticks, etc) Since Matte lips have become so popular, I really got into that trend and that’s pretty much all I wear (or metallic formulas) I kinda put my love for lip gloss off to the side, but within the last couple of months, I’m starting to find that love for it again and have been wearing it more and more.

  • Hella – White nude.

As I’ve mentioned earlier this lip gloss says it’s a white nude, however it shows up a more peachy nude color on me. It’s pretty pigmented for a lip gloss and feels like a lip gloss on your lips. I don’t find it too overly wet or uncomfortable. It is a little patchy, I’m alright with that because it’s a gloss I don’t need it to be fully opaque. I love opaque lip glosses, just in this case, I’m fine with it being patchy and not being a fully opaque gloss. I really find this to be perfect for me. I am obsessed with this color and have been wearing it every day. I know this is something I’m going to have to repurchase and have multiple backups of. I’m going to go through this so quickly & I’m okay with that. 🙂 This color is just insane… it’s so gorgeous to me and I love the color on me. I’m so happy I’ve finally discovered it. This retails for $20 and is 0.20 oz. It can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta, or TarteCosmetics.com

  • Namaste – Light Beige Nude with peachy undertones.

Okay, so I love the color of this! Love it! Actually, this shade is the color I was hoping Kylie Cosmetics Khlo$ (from the KoKo collection) would look like on me or be similar to. With that said, this lip product doesn’t dry down fully matte (even though it’s marketed as a “matte” lip product) the formula is more mousse like, not liquid, which is fine. I like both of those formulas. It dries to almost a powdery look and feel, not fully matte at all. I found this to transfer terribly! Terribly! I had a latte from Starbucks shortly after applying and my cup was completely covered. It was sad. A good portion of the product was on my cup, not all, but a lot! It’s a little disappointing because I want this to be matte and perform the way it says… ugh! The color is a beautiful nude on me and I really love it. I’m conflicted because I love this color so much but it’s not a matte!! That’s really my only issue with this one. It didn’t feel overly drying, it is somewhat drying on the lips, but most mattes are, some more than others… I didn’t find that to be a problem with this one.  As I mentioned, I love this color on me…. and I will overlook that it’s not a fully matte shade because of that reason. I would buy this again for the color (just not eat or drink if I’m planning on wearing it, or at the very least I’d have to be mindful in reapplying) If you’re planning on purchasing this shade (I’m not sure if it’s all Tarte Matte liquid lipsticks or just this color? I’d assume all are like this?) keep in mind it doesn’t dry down fully matte and will transfer A LOT! This retails for $20 and is 0.20 oz.  It can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta, or TarteCosmetics.com

In conclusion, I do really like both of these. I may be in the minority of people who do, although everyone’s different. What works for me may not work for you & vice versa. I find Hella to be my daily go to as of recent. I really like the color of Namaste so I can kinda overlook (or just put up with) the fact it’s not fully matte. It’s frustrating, yes. Do I wish it was a true matte formula like it claims? Absolutely! Is this the worst product in the world? No. Will I go crazy buying more of these matte colors? Probably not. Hopefully Tarte will be able to put together a new formula, one that is FULLY matte and all will be right in the world. 🙂 My opinion still stands that Namaste, while not a true matte shade, is still a gorgeous color and I love how it looks on me. Of course there are tons of companies out there with great matte formulas, Tarte needs a little work in perfecting that, however it all depends on you and what you are okay and not okay with when it comes to products. I can overlook if a product isn’t fully matte and transfers (if I absolutely love a color and the way it looks on me, I will) some people won’t. It’s just a matter of what you’re willing to work with.

Have you guys tried any of the Tarteist lip paints or matte lippies? How was your experience? Did they dry down matte for you or is this just a me thing? (maybe I’m the only one who has this problem, like I do with Dose Of Colors? (Oh geez, if so, I’ve just ranted and went on and on about the color not being fully matte.) Let me know!

Thanks for reading! 🙂
