Too Faced did it again and sucked me in with their cute packaging. For the longest time I would resist… I usually only buy mascara, blush, and lip products from Too Faced. I have lots of great ones from this brand… and so far, I’ve had no issues. No complaints.
With Instagram now, I see all the cute pics of all the latest things, of course. It makes it hard sometimes not to buy into the hype. If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I’m not a big fan of Too Faced eyeshadows. I like the brand okay, just not their shadows much. Personally, for me, I just think there are better quality palettes out there. I usually don’t buy their palettes. With this brand, as I mentioned, I just stick with the blushes, mascara, lippies. This was something new for me to try.
I was shopping the other day and I’ll admit, I had my eye on these. I kept seeing them on my Instagram feed and I was curious. I’ve been on a big highlighter and blush kick lately. I went in and swatched these. I loved the gold one (You Light Up My Life) the best (though I figured it wouldn’t look that great on me.. still, I had to have it) I did noticed these felt very dry. Not smooth or buttery as a lot of my favorite highlighters are.
I ended up buying two of them. You Light Up My Life, & Blinded By The Light. (I ordered the last one Ray Of Light online and it should be here later today/ tomorrow) Before I bought these, I was pleased how they swatched in store. I actually really liked how the gold one swatched in store. The first time I swatched it, it was almost blinding! I loved it!
The first one I tried out was the gold one. (You Light Up My Life) I ended up using two different kinds of brushes with this one because the product just wasn’t getting picked up when I tried applying it. Each time, I had to go back in, build it up, repeat. It’s a very subtle highlighter. It would be good for daytime or someone that just wants a hint of highlight. Great for beginners. Me? I was getting frustrated.
In the end, the highlight for that one was decent. Not anywhere near how I enjoy or like my highlighters… but decent. I didn’t like the color on me, while I thought it was a beautiful gold in the pan… it just didn’t look right on me, as I knew it wouldn’t.
The next one I tried was the Blinded By The Light Color. I didn’t try as hard with that color. I literally couldn’t see a thing after applying. I went in a few times and just gave up. When I looked closely, I could see a hint of sheer color. It was very faint. I was kinda annoyed and wasn’t going to bother putting in as much to try and make it work like I did with the gold one.
In the end I didn’t like these at all. I mulled it over for a day. Should I keep them? Should I return them? They’re $30 each. They’re cute. However, they’re not giving me what I want. Should I just keep them for my collection? Should I pull them out when I want a subtle highlight? (which is rare) What to do, what to do?
I returned them. (The one coming in the mail will be going right back as well. I’m not even going to attempt to try it out) I hate returning items. I do. I try and pick out products I know or think I will like. It’s one of the reasons I spend so much time in Sephora and Ulta swatching products.
What it came down to was this:
- I wasn’t happy with the color payoff at all. I shouldn’t have to work hard to see even a HINT of color. I get they’re meant to build up. That’s fine. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is how much product, how much effort it was taking me to see even a slight hint of color. I mean, for $30 each? C’mon Too Faced.
- For $30 each – so $90 total I spent for the three of them & I have Colourpop highlighters that are, what, $8 each that perform 10x better than a $30 highlighter?
- Realistically I was never going to pull these out again. So $90 wasted just to add some cuteness to my makeup collection?
I couldn’t justify the price point for the quality. I’ve heard some people love these highlighters. I’m really glad that they’re having better luck than I am. I know the girl at Ulta was like, “Not these! You’re returning them? I love them!” Sadly, I am not one that does love them. I really wish I did! I really do.
The highlighters are described as :
“Using an exclusive liquid-to-powder formula, Love Light takes the best of powder, liquid, baked and cream formulas to create unparalleled color payoff for a pearl radiance and silky smooth texture.
- Features a luminosity boosting agent and high pearl consistency that instantly brightens
- Gorgeous color payoff with a pearl radiant finish
- Universal shades create a flattering glow
- Incandescent glow with mesmerizing metallic shine”
I don’t know where any of that was, but it wasn’t with the ones I picked up. I don’t know if these apply better with your finger… however, that’s not something I like to do. I never use my fingers to apply makeup. It’s just a personal preference and I wasn’t about to start changing now.
I want to apologize for the pics. I realized before I returned these I never took pics to give my review. (lol could you tell how much of a rush I was in to get rid of these?) I took these in the car right before I returned them, so the quality isn’t the best.
Have any of you picked these up? What has your experience been like? I’d love to hear what you think. Hopefully you’re having better luck than I did. Let me know!
Thanks so much for reading! 🙂
